Erics Picture a Week Blog

This is my new site for my 2007 Picture a Week project. In 2006 I moved to a photoblog format and feel very comfortable with it. This site allows me to post more than one picture per week. Of course it tells if I don't keep up with the weekly posting. Also included is the archive for my 2005 Picture a Week project.

Just a regular guy wandering the many paths of life. I'm trying to document part of these travels through my photography and also express my creativity through woodworking and building things.

Week 39 Farewell Marty

Marty, our favorite salesman, passed away this week at the age of 90. I've known him for 20 years, my entire professional career. A tireless individual, he was actively visiting his accounts up to 3 weeks ago.

In 1980, he retired the first time and in 1981 went back to work. He spent 33 years at his first job and 24 at his second. At his funeral, his friends recounted many of their favorite Marty stories. I thought I'd share my favorite memory of him.

A couple years ago Marty didn't show up for his usual weekly visit. At his age, when he didn't stop by, we'd worry. Our conversation went something like this.

Marty "Sorry Eric I missed you last week. I went to California for vacation"

Me "Well its about time that boss of yours gives you some time off. What's going on in California?" I knew Marty never took time off.

Marty "I had to go for a birthday party"

Me "That's nice, who's birthday was it?"

Marty "It was my Uncles"

Me "Your Uncles !?!, Geez, Marty, how old is your Uncle!?!"

Marty " He turned 100. He is doing fine except he is sore because the kids are trying to take the car keys away."

Well Marty didn't make it to 100, but he did alright. He always had a word of encouragement and a little advice for me on his visits. He was the last of the old line salesman and a big baseball fan. I'm sure he is smiling somewhere as his White Sox' make a run for the pennant.

Week 38

My golf season ended at Klein Creek. My lessons have paid off- I can now drive the ball an additional 20 to 30 years deeper into the woods.

Week 36 Reflections

This weeks pictures were taken by my 8 year old son with an Argus .3mp camera from grandma and grandpa. The usual PS tweaking was done, but I did not crop the images like I usually do for mine.

Week 36

I usually keep my politics and opinions out of my PAW, but as we all know today is a significant day in the history of America. I worry what the future may bring for my children and their life. I know that most of what lies ahead for the world community is out of my control, but I believe that my hopes and dreams for my children will have a chance to become a reality.

Week 36

Looking at these 3 images taken through the eyes of a child this weekend reflects so much of what is going on in the world. The chaos, love of country, and the peace that we all hope will come to this world are condensed into these pictures.
