Erics Picture a Week Blog

This is my new site for my 2007 Picture a Week project. In 2006 I moved to a photoblog format and feel very comfortable with it. This site allows me to post more than one picture per week. Of course it tells if I don't keep up with the weekly posting. Also included is the archive for my 2005 Picture a Week project.

Week 4

It was somewhat disconcerting to see old Fido getting ready to drive off in his masters suv. I guess traffic is going to the dogs.

Week 4

This building was formerly the end of the line for the purple line on the Cta in Wilmette. It now houses a bank. I've always been a sucker for those prairie style lines.

This weeks photos shot with the R3a and a 40mm Nokton. HP5 @EI200 in HC110b.

Week 3 Reckless Records

On Milwaukee Ave. in Bucktown resides one of my favorite stores, Reckless Records. The chain originated in London and has stores nation wide. Not the big and gawdy like the big boxes, but a good selection of new and used records and cd's.

Week 3

Inside, you will find a great selection of goods. The actual inventory is stored behind the counter, so goofs like me don't mix up or scratch the vinyl.

Week 3

You never know what you may find in the racks. The biggest score was my cousin finding the Holy Grail of the Mobile Fidelity label, Ry Cooder's "Jazz" album. I won't even mention what he paid for it.

This weeks series was shot with a Bessa R3a, 40mm Nokton and HP5 @EI200. The interior shots were hand held wide open at either 1/8th or 1/15th.

Week 2 Sculpture

This week's roll kept running into these strange sculptures. This one was found in Evanston by the light house.

Week 2 Sculptures

I like the way these items contrast with the newly renovated exterior of Crown Hall on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Week 1- A Fresh Start

Head East was the name of a rock band from central Illinois. They reached their peak sometime in the late seventies, but quickly faded into obscurity.

The New Year brings many things for us, a new calendar , a new start, and sometimes a new direction. Looking back at the past two years of my PAW site has been a small evolution of my photography. While the original purpose of this site was to get Leica camera owners out to use their cameras, the site has evolved into a showcase of different formats and subjects. I have also begun the journey to the darkslide, that of large format photography. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the easier way to photographic nirvana. I have probably blown more shots due to dumb mistakes, both in the field and in the darkroom.

While it is not up to me to judge whether my skills have improved, it has given me a deeper appreciation of the world around me. I now observe the world not only in terms of whats there, but also how everything interacts with each other.

Week 1- A New Beginning

It's funny that the inspiration for the new year comes from a quote painted on a rock along the lakefront. It goes without saying that a some observations will be relevant regardless of the time and place.

Week 52 Soft water fishing

On the last day of the year, I wandered over to the Northwestern campus to contemplate the upcoming year. I was a little shocked to find these two gentleman, practicing their favorite past time, fly fishing. I figured they were there to hone their skills, rather than actually trying to catch something. I was later in for a surprise. In retrospect, who I am to say anything as I was walking around in 30 degree weather just to take a few photos.

Week 52

Looking from this angle, this could almost be any stream waiting for the big one. Brrr

Week 52

Reeling in the big one. It was a nice sized salmon which was photographed and released. They jokingly said it was the third time today they caught him.
